Realizing that she had a natural aptitude for modeling in her college days, she paid the bills by taking modeling jobs while she was still in school. She moved on to represent her home state of Virginia at the Miss USA Competition, later on having the opportunity to compete as a representative for the District of Columbia in the Miss World Pageant.

She made the move to acting when she starred opposite Tom Hanks in Bosom Buddies and Dan Aykroyd in Doctor Detroit. She has also had appearances on the iconic television show The Twilight Zone, where she made a name for herself as an actress.
