Liberal: Portland, Oregon

Named after Portland Maine, this historic city was established as the culminating point of the Oregon Trail. Easy water access provided transportation opportunities for goods, and through history the city earned the reputation of being a dangerous port, with vagabonds and thieves running rampant through the city. After World War II, Portland cleaned up its act and made economic and societal changes to attract residents of substance, and the city is thriving and alive-ing these days.

Biden pulled ahead in this last election, with 56 percent of the vote going to Democratic candidates. Portland is at the helm of progressive thought in politics these days, and liberals look to this community for political changes that may be sweeping across the U.S.
