Many of the celebrities we know and love have worked tirelessly to achieve their success, often starting from nothing. They made their riches from hard work, perseverance, and certainly a bit of luck.

However, not every famous person is a rags-to-riches account. It doesn’t take away from their talent or success, but some celebrities were born into wealthy families. Whether they got a leg up thanks to their family or started from the same spot as everyone else is hard to say. Take a look at which rich stars have even richer families…

Julia Louis-Dreyfus 

You likely know Julia Louis-Dreyfus for her nine seasons on Seinfeld, and more recently as Selina Meyer on Veep. As one of the most awarded actresses in American history, it comes as no surprise that her net worth is over $250 million. 

Julia’s an extremely-talented comedic actress, who has had success on three separate comedy series, but her personal wealth isn’t even close to her family’s. She happens to also be the daughter of billionaire Gerard Louis-Dreyfus, who has an estimated net worth of $4 billion.

Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson is one of the most famous and highest-paid actresses in the world. She has been featured multiple times in Forbes  for a good reason. Johansson has starred in many box office hits, including Jojo Rabbit, Match Point, Lucy, and, of course, as her character Black Widow in the Marvel movies. 

Her own personal fame and fortune aside, Johansson is no stranger to wealth. Johansson’s father was a successful architect and film producer, and even her manager at one point. Even if she hadn’t become an actress, she would have likely led a successful and comfortable life in whatever she chose, thanks to her family’s money.

Anderson Cooper 

Anderson Cooper is famous for his work as an American broadcast journalist and political commentator. You’ve likely seen his face on the CNN news show Anderson Cooper 360° and on 60 Minutes. Cooper has made plenty of wealth for himself over the years. However, his mom also left him a chunk of change when she passed on in 2019. 

His mother was Gloria Vanderbilt, the child of railroad heir Reginald Claypoole Vanderbilt. While many assumed that Gloria would leave her son a nine-figure inheritance, she actually used quite a bit of her money before she died, leaving him with (just) a few million.

She is most recognized for her role in the hit ’90s drama, Beverly Hills, 90210.  In 2009, she released an autobiography of her life, Stori Telling, that debuted on the top of the New York Times Best Sellers’ list.

Ariana Grande 

Ariana Grande is an American superstar who started as an actress, but then became an icon in the music industry. This multi-Grammy winner rose to fame in the Nickelodeon series Victorious before signing with Republic Records. 

Grande is known for her incredible taste in fashion and unique outfits. Likely some of that love of design comes from her family. Grande’s father, Edward Butera, is the CEO of design firm Ibi Designs, Inc. Due to his graphic design and ownership of the company, he has an estimated net worth of $125 million. 

Robin Williams 

Robin Williams was a Hollywood and comedy legend. His versatility in comedy and dramatic roles in movies was apparent in every part he took. His voicework as The Genie in the Disney smash hit Aladdin made an entire younger generation fall in love with him and made his 2014 passing that much more tragic.

When he died, he left  $500,000 each to his two sons, $100,000 to his daughter, and the rest went to his charity. In 2019, when his son, Barron, died in 2019, he  honored his father’s wishes and gave most of his money to charity, leaving 3% to his eight children, fifteen grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, one of whom is Paris.

Olivia Wilde

Even if you don’t know her by name, odds are if you watched the hit medical drama House or other films, such as The Change-Up, you know Olivia Wilde. The Booksmart director was actually Olivia Cockburn, but she changed her name in high school to honor the writers in her family. 

Long before Wilde hit the big screen, she understood the concept of wealth. That is to say; her family had big money. Her father is Andrew Cockburn, a producer from an upper British family whose net worth is $13 million. 

Psy

Psy (Park Jae-sang) is a South Korean singer, rapper, songwriter, and record producer from one of the richest towns in South Korea, Gangnam. You have likely heard his hit international song “Gangnam Style” and probably may not want to admit that you have done the iconic dance. 

Psy is the son of Park Won-ho, executive chairman of DI Corporation in Seoul, South Korea. This company is involved in the manufacturing and supply of semiconductors and computer chips. While their exact net worth is unknown in the US, we can assume it is certainly a high figure.

Maggie Gyllenhaal

Jaden Smith is a young actor, rapper, singer, and songwriter. He likely gained his love of being in the entertainment world from his family. Smith is the son of Hollywood stars Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith. She directed Lost in Translation, one of Scarlett Johansson’s early hit films. She started in the entertainment world acting as an infant in her father’s famous crime drama film, The Godfather. 

Coppola’s father is none other than the legendary director Francia Ford Coppola, responsible for the Hollywood classic Apocalypse Now, in addition to The Godfather films.  It is estimated that her father is worth somewhere around $3.6 billion.

Jamie Lee Curtis is a highly accomplished actress and writer with numerous awards under her belt and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In addition to her lengthy list of movie roles, she has written multiple children’s books and is an active blogger for The Huffington Post.

Paltrow’s father, Bruce Paltrow, was a film director and producer. It is estimated that when he died in 2002, his net worth was $30 million. It is believed that Paltrow received some of that fortune and maybe some real estate as well. 

Kristian Bush
