Rush is the only Canadian rock band to make this list (sorry Nickelback). Formed in Toronto in 1968, the band consisted of Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart. At first, everyone thought that Rush was going to copycat Led Zeppelin, but that wasn’t the case.

Rush achieved commercial success in the 1970s and are known for its complex compositions and eclectic lyrical motifs. Like many other rock bands of the era, they had music that evolved over time, from their sci-fi style songs to reggae rhythms. Fifty years later, they are pretty much done with music, but they have left quite the legacy behind.
